"Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show" is still going to be airing on Fox on Nov. 8., but will have a different sponsor that has not been named.
Microsoft planned to sponsor this special TV event. The show was going to be aired commercial free with Microsoft special advertising messages to be broadcasted in place of the commercials. This was going to be a chance to market their new operating system, Windows 7, but Microsoft executives decided that the show was not appropriate and tasteful enough to be supported by their company. Jokes about incest, deaf people, the Holocaust and feminine hygiene did not sit well with the execs.
Those who are familiar with the popular "Family Guy" show should know that the 30 minutes in which it airs are full of what many would call obscene and distasteful (yet hilarious) comedy. A Microsoft spokeswoman said, "We initially chose to participate in the Seth and Alex variety show based on the audience composition and creative humor of 'Family Guy,' but after reviewing an early version of the variety show, it became clear that the content was not a fit with the Windows brand,".
I can totally understand why Microsoft would not want their new software to be plugged during a show that features jokes on such sensitive subjects, but "Family Guy" is known for being bold and indecent. They should have known from the beginning what the program would entail.

I agree with Microsoft for dropping out of there sponsorship with "Family Guy." The show is funny and very popular but personally, if I were apart of a big company I would not sponsor it, due to a lot of the obscene scenes. Microsoft should have known though what they were getting themselves into before saying they were going to sponsor the special event."Family Guy" has always been a little "obscene and distateful (yet hilarious) comedy."
ReplyDelete"Family Guy" has a huge fan base, and most of them are in what would have to be Microsoft's largest target group, so to bail because of some questionable content? I think they might regret that decision.
ReplyDeleteSo FG might be a little offensive. That's why everyone watches it! The show isn't too vulgar for network prime time, so it can't be THAT bad.
Family Guy is very known. But I understand that Microsoft is droping out their sponsorship. Family Guy is very vulgar and not really appropriate. It would make Microsoft look bad.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the show is very inappropriate, but I also think this is a mistake by Microsoft. The people that will tune in to see this episode with only be people who find this type of humor funny. Therefore they will be marketing there new product to a huge fan base, who loves the show. They should not worry about the people who are not watching because frankly a lot of them won't even realize the two things are being paired together.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who knows anything about Family Guy knows what kind of humor is on that show. I'm shocked that it was ever considered. Yes, they have a solid fan base but still.. I couldn't imagine that kind of show help with their sales.
